As part of the activities organized for the Valencia Culinary Festival, Zaw Mahesh, chef proprietor of the renowned Burmese restaurant Lah Pet in London and Steve Anderson of Ma Khin Café have put together a menu that will give you a real taste of Burmese gastronomic traditions influenced by two different, cosmopolitan visions of this heritage.
Burmese food is not so well known outside of the country. Burma (today’s Myanmar) shares borders with India, Bangladesh, China, Laos and Thailand, and it’s food is clearly shared with these neighbours, with similar dishes being found on both sides of the border.
In Burmese cuisine, Indian spices mix with picant noodles so typical of China, and aromatic lemngrass and galangal more commonly associated with Thailand and Indochina.
